Kosovo U16 concludes UEFA Development Tournament in Estonia with valuable experience
4 May, 2025 – The Kosovo U16 women’s national team has concluded its participation in the UEFA Development Tournament in Estonia with a 3:1 loss to the group favorite, Iceland. Coach Xhuli Berisha’s side started the match impressively, taking the lead in the 11th minute through a goal by Krenare Kelmendi. However, Iceland increased the pressure and managed to equalize in first-half stoppage time with a goal from Anna Heiða Óskarsdóttir. In the second half, the Icelandic team demonstrated their quality, adding two more goals through Rebekka Sif Brynjarsdóttir and Eva Marín Sæþórsdóttir, securing both the win and the tournament title, having previously recorded convincing victories against Estonia (6:0) and Slovakia (3:0). Kosovo began the tournament with a strong 5:3 win over the host nation Estonia, but were narrowly defeated 2:0 by Slovakia in their second match. Despite the results, the tournament served as a valuable opportunity for Kosovo’s young players to gain international experience and prepare for future challenges with the U17 squad in upcoming qualification matches. Notably, Kosovo participated in this tournament with a squad made up entirely of players from the domestic championship.
